Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U)

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

People living with HIV who take their medications as prescribed and keep their viral load undetectable do not transmit HIV through sex. This is called U=U – Undetectable = Untransmittable

You’re welcome to screenshot it, share it with friends, or use it in classrooms, organizations, and campus groups.

What Does U=U Actually Mean?

  • HIV medicine can lower the amount of virus in the blood to a level that lab tests can’t detect (an undetectable viral load).

  • When someone maintains an undetectable viral load, they do not pass HIV to their sexual partners.

  • U=U is backed by years of strong science and has been embraced by global health agencies and campaigns such as Prevention Access Campaign.

U=U is more than a slogan; it reduces stigma, supports healthy relationships, and reminds us that people living with HIV can lead long, full lives.

PrEP 101: Medicine to Prevent HIV

PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis) is medicine for people who do not have HIV but are at higher risk and want extra protection.

  • PrEP comes as daily pills or long-acting injections.

  • When taken as prescribed, PrEP is highly effective at preventing HIV from sex or injection drug use.

  • PrEP is one option in a full prevention toolkit that can also include condoms, STI testing, and safer sex communication.

Talk with a healthcare provider or clinic if you think PrEP might be right for you.

If You Need Support Right Now

HIV and sexual health conversations can bring up worry, shame, or old experiences. You’re not alone.

If you’re feeling overwhelmed:

  • Reach out to a trusted friend, mentor, or family member.

  • Contact your campus counseling center or a local mental health clinic.

  • If you are in immediate crisis, call or text your local crisis line or emergency number.

Caring for your mental health is HIV prevention work, too.
